What are some chapter books we could read together as a family?
Reading to your child is so important. It teaches them fluency (what language sounds like), gives them access to higher level vocabulary and ideas that they couldn't otherwise read themselves, engages creativity and imagination, and is a great bonding experience to share!
Recently, a friend who is both a momma and a children's librarian recalled a favorite story that she read aloud to her 18 month old. The book wasn't meant for a toddler, but mom wanted to read the story. This was the way she could fit it into her day - read it aloud while her daughter played! Both benefited from the experience, and I was inspired to begin chapter read-alouds even earlier.
Here are some of my all time favorite read-alouds, start at any age your child/you are ready! I have read some of them to my classes - first graders, fourth graders, second grade children with special needs, to my own son at various ages, and in bookclubs with 6-8 year olds.
