What are some great chapter books for 'tweens'?

Mom and dad, it's okay to *make* your kiddo read in the summer. *Make* him choose a book (or go to the library and check out 10 of my suggestions and have him pick one). Next, help him find a great reading spot. Finally, set a timer for 30 minutes (or do two 15 minute chunks!) and set him off reading. It will be even more effective if you *make* yourself read regularly too! Record your child's books read and take him to the book store to pick out any book he wants after reading 5 (or whatever number seems reasonable in your family!). But, 30 minutes a day, 5 times a week will keep your kiddo up to speed for next school year. Trust me, he will thank you some day!
